Antique Staffordshire Sprigged Mug, Drabware Floral Relief Pottery Tankard
Antique Staffordshire "sprigged" pottery mug (or tankard), likely dating from the early to mid-19th century (circa 1800–1830). It features a "sprigged" or relief-molded floral decoration applied to a pale blue or "drabware" ground. The ornate, scrolled handle and the beaded (pearlware-style) molding along the top rim are typical of English earthenware from this period. Such pieces were produced by various potteries in the Staffordshire district of England, sometimes using ironstone or pearlware.
Based on similar listings for antique Staffordshire sprigged mugs and creamers, values generally fall between $50 and $125 depending on condition and rarity. High-quality early 19th-century specimens in excellent condition or featuring specific historical motifs can reach $295 or more.
This was antique when given to my mother as a child, born in 1930. It's in excellent condition and has always been in a display case.
